How to Increase Learner Engagement

Here we look at how to increase learner engagement in order to maximise the effectiveness of your training. By leveraging the latest elearning tools and strategies, we can make learning more accessible, relevant and impactful – boosting the ROI of your L&D programmes.

Personalised Learning

With so much information available online, it can be challenging to grab learners’ attention and keep them engaged throughout the learning process. The first key strategy to think about is personalised learning.

With elearning, we have greater scope to tailor courses to individual needs than with face to face, instructor-led training (ILT). By understanding learners’ preferences, goals, and existing knowledge, we can create customised learning paths that keep them motivated and focused.

Tommy’s wanted their learners to be able to utilise training materials on pregnancy at work in a way that suited their needs.

We set up a bespoke learning platform that gave them full access to create their own learning paths based on their existing and required knowledge – keeping them focused on what matters to them.

Interactive Training Content

Engaging learners goes beyond just reading text or watching videos. Interactive training content in the way of quizzes, simulations, and gamified activities create an immersive learning experience, making it enjoyable and effective.

When we created the 3D learning environment for WFS’s Risk Management training, we wanted the learner to be fully immersed in the module so that they could interact with elements in the environment.

Learners were able to earn points based on the risks they assessed successfully.

Social Learning

Humans are social beings, and elearning platforms can foster collaboration through discussion forums, group projects, and virtual classrooms. Connecting with peers enhances the learning process and helps retain information.

Our roleplay software allowed Lloyds Bank to foster a collaborative approach to their training by allowing learners to digitally complete customer service conversations as customer and advisor – making the scenario as realistic as possible.

Simulation training to increase learner engagement

The collaborative approach of being able to feedback on each other’s roleplay helped learners to hone their customer service skills in a safe practice environment and to share their knowledge.

Learn about how we helped Lloyds Bank to reduce learner attrition from 20% to just 5% within 3 months.

In Summary

Engaging learners in elearning is crucial for effective knowledge retention and skill development. Embracing these key strategies will help create a dynamic and impactful learning journey for all learners, something that we are always keen to do here at Day One.
